In 2007, the electricity unbundling process occurred in Illinois
for Commonwealth Edison and Ameren customers. At that time, the
larger end consumers of electricity had to choose between purchasing
electricity from an Alternate Energy Supplier (AES) or continue
to purchase electricity from their current utility on an hourly
basis. Smaller end users had a similar choice although their default
service was a fixed price not the volatile hourly rate
Effective
May 2010, the smaller consumers will no longer have the opportunity
to continue on a fixed price. Like the larger
consumers, these customers will need to choose a new provider or
purchase electricity from their current utility on an hourly basis
when demand (and potentially prices) are at its peak!. The customers
who are required to make this choice are as follows:
